About

The ONS Congress brings together oncology nurses from around the world for five days of education and connection, leaving them feeling energized, inspired, and eager to share their new-found knowledge with colleagues.

The event schedule is divided into five educational tracks (Clinical Practice, Advanced Practice, Leadership/Management Education, Radiation, and Research) to provide specialised education and promote knowledge sharing among the thousands of nurses that are expected to visit the Colorado Convention Centre.

This year, the event celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Visit the Paxman Booth

Paxman will be exhibiting at the Oncology Nursing Society again this year at booth 10018. Come and say hello to the team, where we will be talking about the Paxman Scalp Cooling System (PSCS).

The team will be on hand to provide information and support on all things scalp cooling, including talking about reimbursement and widening patient access.

Pluck a duck, win a buck!

While you’re enjoying the conference, stay on the lookout for our rubber ducks. Find one and return it to the Paxman booth to win a prize! There are 50 ducks to find over the course of the event, one for each year of ONS. For every duck claimed, Paxman will make a donation to charity. Happy hunting!

Posters

Abstract Presentations

Insurance-based billing for scalp cooling is a hot topic this year with a more consistent and predictable pathway to reimbursement opening up from January 1, 2026. There are two poster presentations of note to learn more about implementation of insurance-based billing:

“Nurse-Led Implementation of Insurance Billed Scalp Cooling Within an Electronic Medical Record System”.

By Alicia Maston Coffin, MS, RN, OCN, NE-BC, Senior Nurse Manager at Pluta Cancer Center

Summary: A cancer center transitioned from a self-pay to a buy and bill model for Paxman scalp cooling, improving patient access through insurance and financial support. Nurses played a key role in efficiently integrating billing into workflows, ensuring charge capture and expanding access across locations.

Session date/time: Thursday, April 10, 2025, 5:30 PM-7:00 PM

Location: Bluebird Ballroom Prefunction, Poster Pavilion, Poster Monitor 13

“Expanding Scalp Cooling Access: Creating an institution wide insurance-based billing model”

By Andrea Smith MSN, RN, CBCN, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Summary: A cancer center's "buy and bill" model increased scalp cooling access by reducing patient costs through insurance and assistance programs, leading to 92% coverage and higher enrollment. Over 300 nurses were trained, and more machines were added to meet demand.

Session date/time: Saturday, April 12, 2025, 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM

Location: Bluebird Ballroom Prefunction, Poster Pavilion, Poster Monitor 8
