Research and development (R&D) plays a vital role for the progression of chemotherapy side effect management. At Paxman we are continually pushing the boundaries of human knowledge whilst also developing cutting-edge products. Creating the best possible outcome for the patient will always be our first priority.

We’re heavily invested in our in-house R&D team, collaborating with numerous institutions, who strive to improve the outcomes of chemotherapy side effect management.

Our main areas of focus

Development of an individual 3D-printed eco cooling cap, ready for mass production.

The right cap fit is essential to positive scalp cooling outcomes. Paxman is exploring the development of 3D-printed, eco-friendly, cooling caps that will ensure the right cap fit for each patient with the goal of eliminating incorrect sizing on treatment day.

Development of a topical agent with the potential to substantially enhance the effect of scalp cooling

At Paxman, we’re working with Dr. Nik Georgopoulos at Sheffield Hallam University to ensure that efficacy is as high as possible with the belief that a topical agent not only dramatically enhance the efficacy of scalp cooling in protecting from hair loss, but also significantly accelerates recovery post chemotherapy treatment.

We are now working with a third party on formula optimisation of the nano lipid carrier (NLC), regulatory approvals and formulation scale up processes

Preventing chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy

Peripheral neuropathy can be a debilitating outcome for patients on taxane-based chemotherapy, which impacts the hands and feet, ranging from tingling sensations to excruciating pain. Trials have shown the potential of cryotherapy and compression as an effective preventative treatment.

Paxman are now developing a mechanised solution, the Paxman Limb Cryocompression System, to deliver consistent and measurable cooling and compression with feasibility trials currently underway with promising preliminary results.

Miniaturisation of technology

Progression of the PLCS has allowed Paxman to create smaller and more compact technologies, reducing the amount of valuable space occupied and thereby removing additional barriers to cryotherapy adoption and implementation.
